I had the good fortune to travel to Manuel Antonio and Puerto Viejo on my last trip to Costa Rica and it was not a disappointment. Manuel Antonio, as I'm sure you've seen pictures of, or have heard about, was totally awesome. I cannot WAIT to get back there, but the surf and party culture there was enveloping to say the least. Awesome beaches, not packed, more wildlife, and more Costa Rica, if you will.

I love Costa Rican slang. In other words, you will only hear most of these phrases in Costa Rica. Knowing the gist of most of these words makes me feel like a real part of Costa Rican society. As a gringa, using these words has gotten me surprised looks, laughs and more than one head shake. So, for your convenience, words in RED mean danger danger! Go placidly, amigos, and use your better judgement. You may have seen it on a tequila bottle.
